Benchmark Capital is proud to recognise Co-Founder and CEO Fawaz Sankari, who has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours for service to the community and the banking sector.
The recognition reflects more than three decades of leadership across banking, business, education and community service.
Fawaz’s career in Australia’s banking sector has included senior executive leadership roles across the CBA and NAB Groups before joining Bank of Sydney in 2012. As part of its executive leadership team, he helped guide the transformation of the bank from a community-focused institution into a nationally recognised organisation serving customers across Australia.
Alongside his professional career, Fawaz has maintained a strong commitment to education and community service.
As Chairman of Al Noori Muslim School, he has helped champion a culture of academic excellence that has seen the school emerge as one of New South Wales’ highest-performing educational institutions.
As Chairman of the Australian Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry NSW, Fawaz has also worked to strengthen trade, investment and business relationships between Australia and Arab League nations.
His involvement across charitable, educational and community organisations has been underpinned by a consistent focus on creating opportunities and pathways for others.
